Kelly Clarkson, Black Eyed Peas headline Zootopia 2009

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Fans of all stripes crowded the Izod Center Saturday, May 16th, to hear a night filled with music from pop artists Kelly Clarkson, Ciara, Jesse McCartney and the Black Eyed Peas to rock from the All American Rejects, and hip-hop from Soulja Boy Tell’Em and The All American Rejects. Zootopia 2009 started with Jesse McCartney and his lead single “Leavin’,” but it was when he took off his sunglasses and sang “Beautiful Soul” that the sing-along really began. McCartney slowed it down for “It’s Over,” which he called his favorite song off his album Depature. But… Read more »

Death Cab digs out deep cuts for Philly tour opener

Death Cab for Cutie kicked off its U.S. tour last night with a stop at Philadelphia’s Tower Theater, a converted movie house with acoustics ready-made for frontman Ben Gibbard’s supernaturally clean and earnest whisper. Gibbard, recently engaged to fellow indie icon Zooey Deschanel, took the stage after solid performances from opening acts Cold War Kids and Ra Ra Riot and delivered an intimate solo rendition of “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” to a quiet, seated crowd. The rest of the band emerged and hit their stride with “The New Year,” a cut off of 2003’s “Transatlanticism” that ended… Read more »

Katy Perry opens up about Rihanna friendship

Earlier this month, tabloids began reporting that Katy Perry and Rihanna had become “inseparable” following the alleged February 8 altercation between the “Umbrella” singer and her boyfriend, Chris Brown. According to a source quoted by U.K. tabloid The Sun, Perry “was there when Rihanna needed her the most,” reaching out to her and taking her out for nights on the town (there were even rumors of a planned Puerto Rican vacation). Until now, Perry had remained silent on those reports, but when MTV News caught up with her on Wednesday, she talked about her relationship with the embattled pop star.… Read more »

Blink-182's Travis Barker explains arm sling

Once the initial shock of seeing a reunited Blink-182 take the stage at Sunday’s Grammy Awards had subsided, fired-up fans were left to analyze the brief moment, Zapruder-film style. In a post-Grammy interview, Barker told “Extra” host  Mario Lopez that he’d just undergone surgery related to his plane crash last September. “I kind of rushed out of the hospital and my hand was numb, but I didn’t tell anybody,” Barker told the erstwhile A.C. Slater. “It was in four or five of my fingers. I really wanted to fix it as soon as possible. “I had bad nerve damage, so… Read more »

Kanye West: 'I'm so secure with my manhood'

Kanye West is  definitely secure with his raps and with himself. On the Grammy stage on Sunday night, he laid the first verse on “Swagga Like Us,” knowing that he had three more acclaimed wordsmiths – Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and T.I. – coming after him on the track, and still felt confident that his rap held up in such strong company. Kanye does exactly what he wants to do, so it’s no surprise that he took the stage in a sparkling jacket that could have come out of Michael Jackson’s closet in 1984. Still, Kanye’s clothes have become a major… Read more »
