Sevendust On 'Animosity' And Terror War

Sevendust’s third album, Animosity, is set for release on Tuesday (November 13). The album was in the works long before the September 11 terrorist attacks and the subsequent war on terrorism. Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose revealed about the album title, in an interview conduced shortly after the band visited ground zero, in the neighborhood of New York City that was once home to the World Trade Center. “It’s very, very unfortunately coincidental,” he said. “Obviously that title was made months before any of this stuff happened. I have tons of animosity for those that did that. Tons. We dropped a… Read more »

P.O.D. Avoid Doing 'Dark, Dark Video' For 'Youth Of The Nation'

For P.O.D. this week, Youth of the Nation (the tour) had to take a backseat to “Youth of the Nation” (the song). The spiritual rap-rockers canceled a gig in Madison, Wisconsin, Wednesday and flew to Los Angeles to shoot a video for the tune, the second single from Satellite. “Youth of the Nation,” a powerful number written the day of the Santana High School shootings in the band’s hometown of San Diego earlier this year, is scheduled to hit radio and video outlets next month, according to Atlantic Records. The track includes the verse, “Maybe this kid was reaching out… Read more »

Stars leaving egos at home for the Emmys

The Emmys, television’s highest honors, will be presented belatedly Sunday under the cloud of the Sept. 11 attacks with many stars planning to bypass strutting down the red carpet and to leave their egos and low-cut dresses at home. “It’s an awkward time for everybody, and people are still feeling unsure about whether it’s the right time or not,” said veteran Hollywood publicist Heidi Schaeffer. “People aren’t looking to call attention to themselves right now.” Reflecting the Emmys’ subdued tone this year, many stars have decided to forego the ceremony’s red-carpet arrival, among them nominees Martin Sheen of “The West… Read more »

Record Industry Sues Morpheus And Other Decentralized File-Sharing Services

Striking another blow in its fight against unauthorized music downloads, the record industry on Tuesday sued Morpheus, Kazaa and Grokster, three of the services music fans have used to trade files over the Web since the shutdown of Napster. “We cannot sit idly by while these services continue to operate illegally, especially at a time when new legitimate services are being launched,” Recording Industry Association of America president and CEO Hilary Rosen said in a statement. Each of the five major record companies is backing either MusicNet or Pressplay, two services that are promising to offer subscription downloading services by… Read more »

Macy Gray Thinks Now Is A Perfect Time For 'The Id'

As its title indicates, Macy Gray’s recently released sophomore album The Id is a celebration of life’s carnal pleasures, a subject that even Gray acknowledges is an odd thing to be singing about in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. However, Gray tells LAUNCH that she actually feels that there’s a greater appetite among people to hear such songs, mostly to help them gain momentary escape from the stresses that the attacks and their aftermath have caused. “I think The Id is a perfect album for where we are right now,… Read more »

Destiny's Child Mines Triumph From Trauma

Beyonce Knowles of the glittery vocal trio Destiny’s Child is no dummy. She knows that as wrenching as it was to go through the acrimonious departure of two co-founding bandmates, the attendant furor sparked welcome publicity for the group. In fact, since the spring of 2000, the reconstituted Destiny’s Child, comprising Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, has become a dominant pop music force. Three multi-platinum albums and a string of hits – “Say My Name,” “Jumpin’, Jumpin’,” “Survivor” and the “Charlie’s Angels” film theme – have kept the threesome at the top of the charts and made them a… Read more »
