LONDON – A line up such as this is rarely seen in the UK. Brand New, Thrice and Glassjaw are three bands that have never achieved mainstream success, but each has such a following that it only made sense that they would perform at the Wembley Arena.
Think about if someone approached you in a record store asking for something that blends the unique vocal sound of Hit the Lights, the emo power of The Early November and the homegrown pop-punk sound that The Starting Line have perfected. If that person were savvy enough they would hand you a copy of Think Fast from Just Left, the band’s second album and debut for Victory imprint Standby Records.
It has been 15 months Gym Class Heroes released The Quilt, an album that was supposed to carry them to the next level but, thanks to an increased focus on hip-hop, confounded most GCH fans, and quickly disappeared from the charts.
On an appropriately cold and rainy Friday night in the Minneapolis warehouse district, the Despair Faction, AFI’s fan militia, was working itself up, chanting the intro to Black Sails in the Sunset (”Through/Our bleeding!/We/Are one!”) and throwing up martial fist pumps. In early 1984, when Epic Records executives presented their slate of upcoming releases at the convention in Hawaii of parent company CBS Records they couldn’t resist playing up the success they were experiencing. The jam band’s legions of ardent followers sell out arenas in minutes, so with little difficulty they will flood the Tennessee fields of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, which begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. Eminem has come clean, saying that he knew what was in store when bare-buttocked comedian Sacha Baron Cohen crash-landed on him at the MTV Movie Awards television broadcast. Eminem stormed out of the awards ceremony after Baron Cohen, in the role of the main character from his new movie, “Bruno,” landed on his lap after a flying mishap, leaving the audience wondering if the rapper really was furious or if it was a stunt. It is one if its biggest songs, the one that put it on the map and got it to where it is today. But on its new album, Paramore is looking to put “Misery Business” behind it. Looking back, lead singer Hayley Wiliams said that the song provided a much needed catharsis.
