Remembering Stephen Sondheim Theatre and music lovers everywhere are mourning the loss of the legend Stephen Sondheim. The composer died suddenly in New York on Friday morning at the age of 91. Sondheim’s career took off at the age of 27 when he wrote the lyrics for the musical West Side Story. His other credits are global hits like Into The Woods, Sweeney Todd, and Gypsy.
