It sounds like The Onion but no. Kids, this one is fresh off the playground…if there was a bar called the playground. Schoolyard fights escalate to bar fights when you’re a famous musician.

idobi senior writer Catherine Yi sat down with OWEL to discuss the emotional rollercoaster of crowdfunding, touring smart, and playing the Michael Cera equivalent of a show.
Thursday, March 19th I flew into South by Southwest this afternoon. Tonight, I strode 6th Street. amid the scene here in Austin. I felt a tension between, and within, the musicians, attendees, and the city. The dichotomy is an inclination toward indie values, opposed by the gravitation of commercialism. I realize this as I happen on IFC’s Fairgrounds, which features a music stage, interactive attractions such as a Velcro wall, and food trucks and a beer stand. It’s like a festival within a festival and it is a microcosm of SXSW. It’s an insular fantasy realm manifested by marketers and… Read more »
It’s Monday morning. The thought of getting out of bed makes you want to punch a hole in the wall. There’s no bacon or eggs for breakfast, your ex won’t stop calling, and your overly cheerful co-worker won’t stop chatting your ear off about some “super fun-tastic!” projects. If any of this applies to you, you just might be having a Ron Swanson kind of day. Kevin Lyman Did a TED Talk, So Listen Up I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time: Kevin Lyman gave a speech at TedxCPP and it was fantastic. The talk covered a bit of his early years and how he got into touring, but on a much more important note, he talked about the dangers that threaten festival culture. Basically, you get to see, again, why Kevin Lyman is so fan-freaking-tastic.… Read more »
Travis Barker Did A Thing And I’m Happy About It This will be the thrilling sequel to the book series I decided to start last week. But no, Travis deserves all the candy and flowers in the world for finally saying what we’ve all been thinking… Tom Delonge uses pro-tools and needs to grow a pair and quit. Beyond that, Travis’s interview with Alternative Nation was a thrilling, and exciting look into the future of Blink-182, hopefully with Matt Skiba, and what he’s doing on the side. I think this new Blink album is going to be one of their… Read more »

It’s that time of year again where we’re faced with the near-impossible task of choosing our favorite releases from another stellar twelve months of music. After even more complicated math and science than last year, we’ve finally arrived at our top ten records of 2014—find out what made the list and why we fell in love with them!
After releasing their fantastic debut full-length earlier this year, Elder Brother—consisting of Kevin Geyer (The Story So Far) and Dan Rose (Daybreaker)—have constantly been out playing shows across the country. idobi writer Catherine Yi caught up with Dan during their brief west coast winter tour to discuss why bands should never break up, that one weird song on the record (you know which one I’m talking about), the best albums of 2014, and more.
