Live Nation bid for Warner Music Group


Music powerhouse Live Nation Entertainment Inc. is bidding to buy part of Warner Music Group Corp., according to people familiar with the matter, a move that could combine under one roof the world’s third-largest recorded-music company with the biggest concert promoter, artist-management firm and events-ticketing operation. Live Nation is interested in Warner’s recorded-music operation, not its music publishing division, according to the people familiar with the matter. It’s not clear how much Live Nation offered, or how aggressively it may participate in further rounds of bidding. Warner Music and Live Nation declined to comment. Limp Bizkit to perform first US tour date in eight years

Battle over Chicago music scene dominates ticket hearing


The Live Nation Ticketmaster merger was brought before the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights yesterday, with the Chicago music scene at the epicenter of testimony both for and against the merger. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Windy City was used as an example of how the merger wouldn’t violate antitrust laws, with Live Nation chief executive Michael Rapino citing that his company only put on 16 percent of the concerts in Chicago, compared to the 29 percent staged by Chicago-based concert company Jam Productions. Antitrust hearing set for tomorrow in ticketing saga


The potential merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster will face off against the Department of Justice tomorrow as the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights will decide whether the two concert industry superpowers can join forces or if whether the merger violates monopoly laws. Coming soon to Blockbuster stores: concert tickets


SAN FRANCISCO —-  Blockbuster Inc . will begin selling concert tickets at about 500 of its video rental stores, bolstering its effort to create a one-stop shop for entertainment. Under a three-year agreement announced Tuesday, Blockbuster ‘s stores next month will become the primary brick-and-mortar sales outlet for music concerts staged by promoter Live Nation Inc. in the United States.
