Spice Girls Back in Studio

Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham has revealed that the experience of singing again with the Spice Girls was “truly terrifying.” Reported by London’s Daily Mirror, she admitted that standing infront of a microphone again had “freaked her out.” She said: “It’s been so many years since I’ve done any singing. This mic was put in front of me and I was like, ‘whoa.’ It was surreal being back in there. “I always said I wasn’t ever going to sing again and I really didn’t expect to. But once I got going it was fun.” It was revealed earlier this week that… Read more »

Kings of Leon Goes Against the Grain on New CD

Kings of Leon singer/guitarist Caleb Followill says the band had one rule while it recorded its third album, “Because of the Times,” due out April 3. “It was just us against the world and so we pretty much threw everything out the window that people warned us about,” Followill says. “We have 13 songs, which is an unlucky number and I hate stuff like that. I was kind of like, ‘F— it man, if we’re going to have a seven-minute song, let’s put it at the beginning. If we want to try stuff, let’s try it.’ “And at the end… Read more »

New Linkin Park Album 'Not Nu-Metal'

Linkin Park are to release their third studio album ahead of a headline slot at this year’s Download Festival. The as-yet-untitled-set is confirmed for release on April 30th, with the U.S. rockers also preparing a single to hit a week prior, on April 23rd. Co-produced by Rick Rubin and the band’s co-lead vocalist Mike Shinoda (who toured his side project throughout 2006), the set is described as ‘unpredictable’ by the band’s other singer Chester Bennington. “[It’s] dark and spooky, poppy and very melodic…” he says. “We’re straying away from a lot of the predictable sounds we’ve had in the past.… Read more »

Jamie Cullum's 'Frontin' ' Gets Neptunes To Produce His Next LP

Hollywood – If imitation is the highest form of flattery, reinterpretation is a close second. Pharrell Williams was certainly flattered by Jamie Cullum’s rendering of “Frontin’,” a bonus track on the British jazz singer and pianist’s breakthrough album, Twentysomething. “He heard it and wanted to meet with me,” Cullum revealed recently. That meeting led to the Neptunes agreeing to work on Cullum’s next album. The odd pairing is scheduled for March, but in the meantime Cullum has been collaborating with another unlikely producer, Dan the Automator of Gorillaz and Handsome Boy Modeling School fame. “We sampled some old jazz records… Read more »

Carlton Strikes a Balance with Sophomore Set

Los Angeles – Vanessa Carlton is realistic. She knows today’s musical environment is not always friendly toward pop-oriented artists who play their instruments and write their songs, as she does. In fact, Carlton says she is gladly straddling the fence between “being true to myself as a musician and being embraced commercially” with her sophomore album, “Harmonium,” due Nov. 9 from A&M/Interscope Records. “It’s nice to be back and be the alternative to the more calculated, poppy acts out there,” the 24-year-old artist says. “I feel lucky that I’m able to appeal to real music lovers, and it also somehow… Read more »

Hot Hot Heat Make New "Mess"

Canadian rockers Hot Hot Heat will head home to Victoria, British Columbia, after a fall tour to work on the follow-up to 2002’s Make Up the Breakdown. “This is the end of this period of touring,” frontman Steve Bays says. “We want some new songs.” Shows on the band’s current tour, which kicked off last night in Las Vegas, will likely include at least one new one, “You’re Making Such a Mess.” “People get into it the first time they hear it,” Bays says. “It’s really bizarre sounding, so it draws people in right away.” Another new track, currently untitled,… Read more »

New Found Glory Do It Tortoise-Style

Call them the new poster boys of pop punk. Dub them bearers of a torch once carried by Green Day and Rancid. Pronounce them the best thing to happen to the genre since the invention of the pogo. Just don’t call New Found Glory the next big thing. “I’d hate to be the next big thing,” singer Jordan Pundik said. Rather than ride a rocket to the top, Pundik and bandmates Cyrus Bolooki (drums), Chad Gilbert (guitar), Ian Grushka (bass) and Steve Klein (guitar) adopt a policy of slow and steady, careful not to suffer from overexposure. “Our videos aren’t… Read more »

Simple Plan Trick Blink-182's Bassist Into Destroying Vintage TV

Any band that continues playing while one of its members bleeds profusely has gotta be punk rock, regardless of how poppy its harmony-filled songs are. Montreal’s Simple Plan did just that during a recent show in Detroit when a member of the crowd expressed his love by flinging a bottle of water at drummer Chuck Comeau’s head. “I stopped playing for a minute and took a towel to wipe my face, and it was just covered in blood,” Comeau recalled. “But we had two songs left, so I kept going. Every break I would just stop and pull out the… Read more »

P.O.D. Record Track For Santana Album, Assemble Bonus DVD

Marcos Curiel has long been a fan of Carlos Santana, so when the P.O.D. guitarist discovered that the jam rocker wanted P.O.D. to record a song for his upcoming album, Curiel felt so alive he thought he could… well, you know how the song goes. “Every chance we get, we try to go to a Santana show because they just rock live,” enthused Curiel. “We’ve always been a band that’s open to so many different styles of music, so when we got the opportunity to work with Santana, we jumped on it.” P.O.D. got that opportunity after their producer, Howard… Read more »

Lifehouse Give New Single, Video A 'Spin'

Will Lifehouse’s new single, “Spin,” get as much love as their 2000 hit “Hanging by a Moment,” which received more radio airplay in 2001 than any other song? If the public’s appetite for poppy hard rock hasn’t waned, “Spin” should soon be blasting over the airwaves and propelling the band’s second album, Stanley Climbfall, to stratospheric heights when it arrives on September 17. The song is a little more involved than the band’s debut single, blending Led Zeppelin groove and trippy Beatles-y arpeggios within the group’s standard Stone Temple Pilots-meets-Matchbox Twenty foundation, but the track could still have be called… Read more »
