The biggest compliment that could be given to blink–182’s new album NINE is that it doesn’t sound like “old blink.” That’s not an insult to the band’s previous albums either. This is an album that is enjoyable in its new-ness. We aren’t listening to something that is a throwback, reminiscent of another time, or that wants to live in another era. With the Vans Warped Tour 25th anniversary shows and genre sensation blink–182 touring the 20th anniversary of their “Enema of the state” album a massive pop-punk revival is underway. Blink–182’s new album “NINE” will be out September 20 and after the outstanding reception of “blame it on my youth” one can only imagine the trajectory from there will skyrocket. The tracklist for NINE definitely sounds like it will be a good time at the very least. Thank you, Tom DeLonge, for naming that thing we all knew existed but didn’t know what to call it. The National Music Lovers Index, you know, that thing where songs are starting to get noticed and played. They start floating around playlists and being shared on social media. Who knows where the songs land on Billboard charts but the music lovers, we’re listening.
