My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has spoken directly to fans about the problem of anti-emo related violence in Mexico. Tensions have escalated in the country over recent months with a series of reported attacks against people who have “an emo look”. My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way is temporarily leaving the band to spend time with his new wife. The band will continue with a replacement. Mikey was married on March 8 to fiance Alicia Simmons at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Way’s brother and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard served as best man. TV on the Radio bassist Gerard Smith has died of lung cancer, the band announced on its official website Wednesday.
“We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer,” the band’s statement reads. “Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.”
