Mike Ness is the sole remaining original member of Social Distortion, the southern California rockabilly punk band that rose to prominence during the 1980s.
The group turned June Carter Cash’s “Ring of Fire” into a staple of rock radio, and Ness’ hardscrabble youth inspired such hits as “Story of My Life” and “Prison Bound.”
Social Distortion’s first album in more than six years, “Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes,” recently debuted at No. 4 on the U.S. pop chart, the highest ranking in the band’s career. The road warriors will begin a U.S. tour in Albuquerque on Tuesday, and then hit Europe for the summer festivals.

Sean Lennon will score the indie vampire comedy “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead,” which stars fellow celebrity spawn Jake Hoffman and Devon Aoki. Hoffman (son of Dustin) plays an unemployed actor who gets his big break directing a bizarre off-Broadway version of “Hamlet.” But there’s a catch: The adaptation is written by a Romanian (John Ventimiglia, best known as chef Artie Bucco on “The Sopranos”) who happens to be undead. People’s all-star, pre-Grammy concert with Timbaland ended with a resounding crash when the superproducer and rapper delivered a foul-mouthed tirade against the magazine because some of his friends were apparently left outside the venue. The world was treated to “Gimme More” this summer. But Perez Hilton may have given his readers too much, too soon. Zomba Recording LLC, which is owned by Sony BMG, filed a federal copyright-infringement lawsuit Thursday against the online gossip purveyor, saying that over the past three months he illegally posted at least 10 new Britney Spears tracks, both completed cuts and unfinished demos, on perezhilton.com. “The unauthorized dissemination of recordings is a serious violation of copyright law,” said a Zomba spokesperson. “In addition, posting demos and unfinished songs as if they were final versions is grossly unfair to the… Read more »
