Reunited rock trio Crowded House will tour North America for the first time in more than 10 years, beginning August 4 in Northampton, Mass. The tour runs through mid-September and includes a previously announced appearance at Seattle’s annual Bumbershoot festival on September 1. The tour will promote the Neil Finn-led band’s forthcoming album “Time on Earth,” to be released July 10 via Dave Matthews’ ATO label. The group, with new drummer Matt Sherrod subbing for the late Paul Hester, played the Coachella festival in southern California last month. Canadian rock outfit Hot Hot Heat will return in the fall with its next album, “Happiness LTD.” Due Sept. 11 via Sire, the project was co-produced by the band with Butch Walker, Tim Palmer and Rob Cavallo. Tracks include “Outta Heart,” which frontman Steve Bays calls “the most non-Hot Hot Heat song we’ve ever done,” and “Harmonicas & Tambourines,” which features four drum kits playing at once. “It covers the journey from bliss to misery and the attempt to get back to bliss, while acknowledging how exciting the ride can be in between,” Bays adds of the album. “Happiness LTD.”… Read more »

For all the talk about Linkin Park killing off nü metal on the upcoming Minutes to Midnight, it’s rather puzzling that the first sound you hear on the album is the crackle of a needle hitting a record. After all, one of the, uh, tenets of the genre was the head-bopping DJ – think guys like LP’s Joe Hahn or Limp Bizkit’s Lethal – the dude responsible for, literally, putting the needle on the record (and for appearing out of place in all the press photos). Paris Hilton’s “simple life” has just gotten a lot more complicated. On Friday (May 4), a judge sentenced the hotel heiress to 45 days in Los Angeles County jail for violating the terms of her probation, Los Angeles Superior Court confirmed to MTV News. Hilton must report to the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Lynwood on June 5 or face a 90-day sentence. She will not be allowed work release, leaves of absence or an electronic-monitoring device instead of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. OLYMPIA, Wash. — During the morning rush hour on Dec. 5, the 53-year-old driver of a blue Dodge Caravan was traveling north on Interstate 5 outside Seattle when he took his eyes off the road to scan an email on his BlackBerry, the State Patrol says. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame swung open its doors Monday night to the latest batch of acts ticketed for music immortality, with the Georgia alt-rock icons and the dysfunctional Pasadena party band leading the way. Around the time Brett Gurewitz was launching Epitaph Records in 1981, his father was lecturing him to take guitar lessons. The Bad Religion guitarist and punk-rock entrepreneur never sat down for courses with a guitar instructor, although he did go to school to learn to be a recording engineer.
