Jared Leto’s Joker Look Has Broken Everyone Whether you’re a comic lover or not, the picture of Jared Leto’s new look as the Joker for Suicide Squad leaked and it’s… not disappointing. It’s a creepy “I’m going to kill everyone” look, and with Leto’s extreme acting skills already behind just the picture, I’m seriously excited about the promise this role holds for him. Not only was I excited about this announcement of Jared Leto, but I was overly ecstatic when I SAW HOW HE LOOKS. It’s just so creepy, and he seems like the perfect person to play a joking… Read more »

TheBillboardChart Needs a Streaming Makeover With All Time Low’s number one album debut debunked by the new Billboard standard, many people in our scene posed the question if we need to rethink the way Billboard included streaming into it’s tallies. Right now, every 1,500 streams of a song off an album = 1 album sale. Thomas Nassiff of Absolutepunk wrote a wonderful short piece on the matter. In my opinion, it’s crap. A successful single does not an album make. If that were true, Vanilla Ice would have probably been much more successful and have never gotten arrested for stealing.… Read more »

Brand New Cannot Do Anything Wrong. Ever. So, they opened their show with a new song and I’m pretty sure I cried over it. Okay, I definitely cried over it. Brand New is making their comeback loud and clear. They’ve posted a new promo picture, wiped everything off their Instagram, presented new music, and played “Soco Amaretto Lime” at their show in Denver. Basically, they said “Hey, look, we’re really back now and we’re going to do all of this and make you cry.” Did I mention I’m seeing them for the first time ever this week? Well, I am.… Read more »

Tom Delonge Released A New Video And I’m Done I’m not going to get over it. I will never let go. The music is supposedly supposed to be meant as a Blink-182 track, and the video is filled with anger directed a drum sets and a bass guitar! Real subtle, DeLonge. Seriously considering getting him a kiddie pool for all of his tears at this point. In all honesty, it’s just bad form to force your band’s hand and then come out with a music video that seems as if you are blaming them completely. I tried to watch the… Read more »

The Selfie Sticks Have Been Banned From More Music Festivities A couple of months ago I told you about a venue in the U.K. banning selfie sticks. Well, it just got better. Both Coachella and Lollapalooza have now also banned the death sticks that people use to take selfies with (side note: I totally wasn’t using one at the Grand Canyon last weekend or anything…) Anyway, this is a VERY good thing. Music festivals often involve an abundance of of alcohol, crazy people, and unmentionables with medical cards that validate their “back problems”. We don’t need to add metal poles… Read more »

SXSW 2015 Diary: A Subculture in Search of a Subculture

Thursday, March 19th I flew into South by Southwest this afternoon. Tonight, I strode 6th Street. amid the scene here in Austin. I felt a tension between, and within, the musicians, attendees, and the city. The dichotomy is an inclination toward indie values, opposed by the gravitation of commercialism. I realize this as I happen on IFC’s Fairgrounds, which features a music stage, interactive attractions such as a Velcro wall, and food trucks and a beer stand. It’s like a festival within a festival and it is a microcosm of SXSW. It’s an insular fantasy realm manifested by marketers and… Read more »
