Today might be the last day of the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon but there is still a full day and night of events to go. We’ve made our final “Four Play” picks but it hasn’t been easy narrowing down our choices the last five days. Whether you were able to attend this year in person or are sitting at home looking for some new music, you should check out all of the great artists who played CMJ this year. You might just find your new favorite band among the local, national, and international talent showcased this year.

Why are Gerard Way, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Foster The People all in NYC this week? For the CMJ Music Marathon of course, and you should be here too! There’s nothing like the thrill of discovering a new favorite band, and with over 1,400 artists playing more than 300 showcases at 80+ venues throughout the city, CMJ surely has one for you. The music marathon welcomes veterans like Cold War Kids, newcomers like Zella Day, International acts including the famous Japanese all girl punk band Shonen Knife and countless up and coming artists all hoping to be discovered. These acts are brought together for five days of music and featured speakers from the industry. For each day, idobi Radio will be bring you the CMJ “Four Play”: four can’t miss events for each day of CMJ.

Tuesday Ten: Musical 180’s


Even if you’re convinced that a band changing their sound is the worst thing that’s ever happened to you, it’s perfectly natural for someone’s music to develop and shift from album to album. But every once in a while, those shifts are so dramatic that the early work ends up sounding like it was released by an entirely different band than the more recent material.
