Ten years ago, four plucky young men from Las Vegas exploded onto the scene. No one quite knew what to make of them, but through a combination of more wit, a better kiss, a hotter touch, and better fuck[ing lyrics], they made a name for themselves.
Everyone else go home, ’cause New Politics are “the Kings and Queens and [they] run this city.†Vikingswas our most anticipated release of the summer, which is usually the set-up for a let down.
Photo Credit: Graham Fielder for Alternative Press Over the course of the last week, my life has been all about the Alternative Press Music Awards 2nd year celebration. It’s been filled with good friends, new friends, old heroes that have become friends, and a lot of tequila. But, before the reunions, the hugs, and even before the tequila, I got to go to the grand opening of the Alternative Press Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Exhibit. It was the single most humbling experience of my APMAs week, and I couldn’t be more proud of the promises it… Read more »
“Hit Like A Girl” Premiered This Week I’m in love with this idea. The “Hit Like A Girl” contest is meant to inspire female drummers who work their asses off and continue to banish certain ideals about girls in bands, and it’s an all around awesome cause. In our scene, we obviously all know the lovely Jess Bowen as our go-to female drummer. She’s majorly involved with this project, and in the new mini-documentary they released you get to see her involvement with an amazing cause and contest. Oh, and in case you needed another push to watch, Beyonce’s drummer,… Read more »
Twenty One Pilots Debuted At Number One And My Heart Is Soaring Last week Twenty One Pilots released their second full-length album, Blurryface, which I have not stopped listening to, and they also became the second band from our scene this year to have a number one album (debuting as number one on Billboard). It’s hard to find two dudes more deserving of that honor than Tyler and Josh, who when they found out, took to the internet to completely dedicate their success to their fans and their skeletonclique. As someone who grew up in Ohio, I couldn’t be more… Read more »
Excuse the Emo Revival, But Acceptance Released a New Song If you’re a newby in this scene, the name Acceptance might not ring too many bells for you. You might have heard them on “Outlines” on All Time Low’s 2012 LP Don’t Panic. But, what you should know is that these guys released one of the best albums ever, Phantoms. It was their only full-length release, and one that marked the first generation of underground pop-punk/emo breaching the mainstream wall. Dig around for a song called “So Contagious”, because it’s perfect and probably familiar. And now, after 10 years they… Read more »
