With a certain industry critic quipping recently that the album format is dead, the success of The Visual Album goes to show that the album format is only as alive as the artistic creativity and expression that it possesses from front-to-back, and that that such creativity and talent is still rewarded in the music industry.
For the first time in a decade, the classic lineup of The Ataris will reunite next year to perform their album, So Long, Astoria, in its entirety from start to finish. Support for the tour will come from Authority Zero, Drag The River, Versus The World and Gasoline Heart.
One of the most impressive bands we got to check out at CMJ this year was Austin, TX’s Quiet Company. We spoke with trombonist Cody Ackors and drummer Jef Weathers at the end of the week to talk about their CMJ experience, their plans for the next record, and their very brief career as the next big dubstep act.
After their run on the Glamour Kills tour, Mayday Parade will be heading out on the “Monsters Overseas” tour in early 2014 in Europe and the UK. The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Acts playing the festival this year include You Me At Six, The Sounds, The Dismemberment Plan, NGHBRS, Echosmith, Braid, and more.
