Jay-Z and 311 headline the Sprite Liquid Mix Tour, which kicks off Tuesday (August 20) at Wantagh, New York’s Jones Beach Amphitheater. Others on the bill include Nonpoint, Hoobastank, Nappy Roots, N.E.R.D., and Talib Kweli. The tour was put together by Warped Tour organizer Kevin Lyman, who revealed how it differs from Warped. “They asked if we’d come and produce it and I said, ‘Sure.’ And then I designed this thing called ‘the playground.’ I found all these great underground graffiti artists that are going to be doing, hanging under overpasses and building freeway overpasses. Because you drive down the… Read more »
New Found Glory is currently on the Vans Warped Tour and the timing of the tour is perfect for the band, since its Sticks And Stones was released in June. Guitarist Chad Gilbert revealed the band is glad to have some fresh material, including the first single and video, “My Friends Over You,” to play on the tour. “You know, we have the new record out, we have a video out, and we have all this stuff going on, and it’s cool to be able to bring all that to the Warped Tour as opposed to any other tour. Twelve hours, four stages and more than 40 bands marked the end of the three-day Skate and Surf Festival on Sunday. Held at the Asbury Park Convention Hall, the second installment of the now annual event featured performances from Bouncing Souls, Face to Face and the Descendents, among many others. While the Warped Tour travels from town to town with many of skateboarding and BMX culture’s best-known athletes and favorite artists, the stationary Skate and Surf tends to be more down-home, offering quarter-pipes and rails to anybody bold enough to show up with a bike or a board and a… Read more »
Music fans eagerly anticipating the return of the pioneering Lollapalooza tour will have to wait at least another year. After declaring in November that the mobile festival would end its four-year hiatus in 2002, organizers have delayed its return until next summer. “Having gotten a late start, we felt it would be smart to start building now for summer 2003,” Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell said in a statement. “It will afford us a chance to get the headliner we really want.” The right lineup has always been important to Lollapalooza, which was planning to come back this year in part… Read more »
The once fertile scene of Lollapalooza, Lilith Fair, the HORDE and Furthur has dried up in recent years, leaving the U.S. summer tour circuit a less festive place for traveling rock music festivals. So pop auteur Moby, in the wake of the success of his latest album, “Play,” has decided to do something about that. “I’ve spent a long time playing European festivals and was impressed by how eclectic and open they were,” explains Moby, whose Area: One tour opened Wednesday in Atlanta. “There was a period in the States where we had a few really interesting festivals…. When those… Read more »
Blink 182 kicked off its tour on Wednesday (July 4) in Moline, Illinois at Mark Of The Quad Cities, and the band literally proved to naysayers that it gives a flaming flying fuck. As fans awaited the band, the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey played. As the curtain opened, fans were greeted by a giant “FUCK” sign engulfed in flames, circa Kiss 1977. The rest of Blink’s set also contained a heavy dose of pyrotechnics. Parents who accompanied their children to the show may have sat with mouths open in shock at the giant burning expletive in the background,… Read more »
