ALLENTOWN, Penn. – All That Remains was headlining, the ticket read, but there was nothing obvious about this from the way the crowd was acting throughout last Monday’s show at the Crocodile Rock Café.

Sade at work on first album in nine years

Sade Adu, the reclusive “quiet storm” soul singer who takes notoriously long breaks between releases, has regrouped with the band that bears her name and is recording her first album of new material since 2000’s Lovers Rock. The group is in the studio through June. Sony has not set a release date but hopes to put the record out by the end of 2009. “She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready,” according to a source at Sony. “You don’t wait for years for one and then rush it.” Sade’s longtime bandmate Stuart Matthewman… Read more »

Green Day rips into 'Breakdown,' fan favorites at NYC show

Green Day is continuing their march to an inevitable Number One album, setting up rock-opera shop at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on May 18th for the East Coast live debut of 21st Century Breakdown. The band’s Bay Area guerilla gigs in April all featured the record in its entirety. But at the Bowery, Green Day played a pocket-jukebox edition of the album, starting with the opening title track and the first single, “Know Your Enemy.” Then the new six-piece band – with singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool assisted on guitars, keyboards and extra… Read more »

Green Day brings '21st Century Breakdown' to life

Green Day played the biggest show of its week-long tour of the San Francisco Bay Area April 14th, performing its upcoming album, 21st Century Breakdown, in its entirety. After only eight full rehearsals of the opera and those two club dates, the six-piece Green Day – Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool with guitarist Jason White, keyboardist Jason Freese and guitarist Jeff Matika – had the Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid. “I”m not fuckin’ around,” Armstrong crowed in “Horseshoes and Handgrenades,” and there was no insecurity in the way… Read more »

Labels bet on flexibility with new iTunes pricing

Apple Inc. and major music labels are betting that the launch of three-tier pricing at the iTunes Music Store will boost music sales with a new mix of song-based packages and give consumers more options. Apple will announce its new three-tier price points at 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29, according to several people familiar with its plans. Since opening in 2003, all songs in the iTunes store have been priced at 99 cents. The previous “one price fits all” strategy has long caused friction between Apple and the music labels, who argued that songs should be priced differently to… Read more »

Chris Brown scheduled for arraignment today

Two months after an alleged altercation with girlfriend Rihanna that resulted in his arrest, singer Chris Brown, 19, is due in court Monday to be arraigned on felony charges of assault and making criminal threats. Brown, who has kept a relatively low profile since his February 8 arrest, is also expected to enter a plea at today’s arraignment, which is a formal reading of the criminal complaint against the singer.
