We kicked off the first week of summer by heading to the return of Baeble Music’s Band + Brews Series in Brooklyn, NY for a relaxing of evening of music. On the bill this time around were Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket, Great Good Fine Ok, and Arkells. It was a treat to have Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket open this secret show. As a fan of the band, getting to experience Carl’s one-man set was incredible. Shifting from electric to acoustic guitar and then to saxophone, Broemel’s entire set was truly a great start to the night. More… Read more »
During the past couple of years, some of the Christian music community’s best-loved groups have chosen to call it quits, including Audio Adrenaline, Petra, 4HIM, Watermark and Out of Eden. On the other hand, 2006 saw some veteran acts deliver some of the best music of their careers, including Phillips, Craig & Dean with “Top of My Lungs” and the Newsboys with “Go.” “I enjoy traveling and our fans. I appreciate them,” Newsboys frontman Peter Furler says. “Being around 20 years, we’ve got fans that were in their teens and now they have their own teenagers . . . Just… Read more »
With the new Barenaked Ladies album, Everything To Everyone, dropping into record shops continent-wide today, ChartAttack thought this would be a good time to check in with the band. After all, unless your name is Michael Jackson (and it’s not, is it?), a new album release means a new North American tour. And news of a new tour is particularly exciting, given the BNL are justifiably known as one of this nation’s most awesomest of live acts. Strangely enough, frontman Steve Page says the band’s rep for fine performance can sometimes be a bad thing. “It’s funny, but I think… Read more »
For years, both onstage and on “The Osbournes,” we’ve witnessed legendary metal singer Ozzy Osbourne shake, stammer, stutter and shuffle around with a walk that grew increasingly hunched over and motor functions that only seemed to be getting worse. Speculation ran rampant. Were these maladies related to years of drug abuse dating back to the Black Sabbath days? Parkinson’s Disease? Muscular Dystrophy? The answer is, in fact, none of the above. Thanks to a Boston neurological specialist, Ozzy now knows the cause of the “shakes” that have plagued him for decades and with the help of a new medication, he’s… Read more »
Anyone old enough to remember spinning vinyl records also remembers relegating them to the nostalgia pile when CDs became the listening standard more than a decade ago. Now, CDs may be headed for the same fate. Over the last couple of years, manufacturers and record companies have rolled out two new musical formats – DVD-Audio and Super Audio Compact Discsthat they hope will replace the CD. “It’s really getting rolling. The number of titles is increasing rapidly,” says John Trickett, chairman of the 5.1 Entertainment Group, which has produced almost 100 DVD-Audio titles. “If you compare it to the launch… Read more »
With a career spanning nearly 35 years, Elton John has a simple explanation for his longevity: “I tend not to look back. I look forward.” That said, John doesn’t disagree with the overwhelmingly favorable reviews that refer to his new album, “Songs From the West Coast,” as a vintage work hearkening back to the early 1970s hits that established him as a leading pop music figure. “I’m fine with that,” says John, 54, of comparisons to such early albums as “Tumbleweed Connection” and “Madman Across the Water.” “It’s the same kind of lineup as I had on the old albums,… Read more »
