Over the weekend in Cleveland, Green Day joined the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, and so many more with their induction into the Hall of Fame. This was huge news for Alternative music seeing as Green Day is really the first modern punk band to be inducted. The list of 15 nominees for the 2011 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is one of the most eclectic yet.
NEW YORK – Barely a year after it opened in Soho, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s New York annex is closing. The Cleveland-based parent Hall of Fame confirmed Friday that its New York affiliate, which required a $9 million investment and was part of a broader expansion plan, will shut its doors on Jan. 3.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomed its first members from the new wave and punk eras on Monday night, inducting The Ramones and Talking Heads along with classic rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, soul and R&B icon Isaac Hayes, versatile vocalist Brenda Lee and singer/songwriter Gene Pitney. Legendary guitar sideman Chet Atkins was also inducted, as was Jim Stewart, founder of and driving force behind revolutionary soul music label Stax Records. Voting is currently going on for the 2002 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and once again Black Sabbath is among the finalists on the ballot. Frontman Ozzy Osbourne has made many caustic comments about the Hall and has intimated that he has no interest in being thus enshrined. Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a not-for-profit educational facility, and United Stations Radio Networks, an independent leader in the network radio programming business, today announced that they had joined forces to create nationally distributed radio programs. The partnership calls for the development of at least one regularly scheduled radio project to commence later this year, and within that agreement, United Stations has been granted the right to act as “The Official Radio Network” for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
