Hardcore’s growing popularity in the mainstream is evident. With Knocked Loose going viral, the genre has introduced a new avenue for some artists to explore. Que: The Neighbourhood’s vocalist Jesse Rutherford and his new band, Valley Girl. The new group has released a four-song demo on YouTube simply titled “Demo” that runs a little over 10 minutes. The songs sound similar to a ramped-up version of bands such as Turnstile that add indie spice to the mix with a sharpened edge to round out the finished piece. — As UK music festivals go, the Phoenix Festival doesn’t have the storied history of Glastonbury or Reading. It only ran for five years, between 1993 and ’97, but it was located pretty close to my home in the Midlands region of England when I was growing up, and so I went to the 1995 event and the two that followed. The 1996 Phoenix Festival is the festival that I judge all festivals on.
