Linkin Park has announced plans to release a new song, “Blackbirds,” through its mobile game app “Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion!”

Developed in collaboration with Artificial Life, Inc., “Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion!” is an action-adventure game in which players aim to defeat PixxelKorp, an “evil HD empire” that has stolen Linkin Park’s music. Players take on missions that lead them through several “districts,” which each level based one of the band’s members.

“Blackbirds,” a new and exclusive song, is unlocked upon completion of all the missions, marking one of the first times an artist has released new music through a mobile game application. 8-bit versions of the band’s most popular songs, including “In The End,” “New Divide” and “Crawling” are also featured.

“Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion!” for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad will soon be available through the iTunes App Store.
