What We Think: Good Charlotte’s “40oz. Dream”

Long before Tumblr became a lifestyle, pizza culture reigned, and Glamour Kills was the unofficial stylist of every dude you know, lived Good Charlotte. The band formed twenty years ago, and found their way to the top of every chart back in pop punk’s glory days.

The Rocket Summer: A Comeback from a Band Who Never Left

It’s a pretty beginning of a fall afternoon when I meet up with Bryce Avery, better known as The Rocket Summer at a park in Los Angeles. After about 10 minutes of trying and failing to locate each other in the park, we finally managed to find our way. We caught up quickly after our last meeting at this summer’s APMAs, and then took a nice hike up the trails–me in heels, and him in a leather jacket–to help photographer Erica Lauren get the perfect pictures before coming back down to talk about his “not really a comeback” comeback. The… Read more »

ICYMI – March 22, 2015

An Attack On Titan  Movie Teaser Was Released and I’m Dead If you’re an anime lover like me, this probably has you in a giant tizzy—I am so excited about this movie. (Granted I haven’t finished the series yet because I never have time to breathe anymore, but I’m working on it.) Attack On Titan itself has become a cult-classic turned mainstream anime phenomenon that I’ve been working on for two years. But it’s the most heart-wrenching, tear-inducing, make a grown man cry openly without embarrassment anime you will ever see–it’s so worth taking a peek at the live… Read more »

Indie band pays fans to download album

Indie rock band Officer Roseland is paying fans one dollar to download their new album as part of a marketing campaign motivated by tough economic times and a cluttered music marketplace. The band will offer fans two option: The first called “TAKE” pays one dollar to download the album “Stimulus Package.” The second “GIVE” donates that dollar to the charity Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. In either case, the fan receives the album at no cost to them.   Formed in 2000, Officer Roseland is a four-piece independent rock band from Philadelphia, Penn. The band has recorded four studio albums, has… Read more »

Conan O'Brien on White Stripes

One night in the late 1990s, Conan O’Brien was hanging out in a Detroit bowling alley after shooting a remote segment with Ted Nugent (”I rode around in the woods with him, we had a guitar duel and then fired guns,” he recalls). “I have this vague memory of these really cool kids coming over and hanging out with us,” he says. “I knew nothing about them or what they did.” A few years later, O’Brien learned he had met Jack and Meg White that day when he popped into a Saturday Night Live rehearsal to check out the White… Read more »

Gym Class Heroes Graduate to Big Leagues

For then 15-year-old Travis McCoy, high school gym class was nothing more than an excuse to chat about music with buddy Matt McGinley. McCoy, who was an aspiring rapper, was the frontman for a local band, and McGinley played drums for another in their native Geneva, N.Y. The summer after sophomore year, McGinley’s band landed a party gig, and McCoy, who happened to be at the same gathering, stepped to the mic and began to rhyme along with it. Thus Gym Class Heroes was born and went on to release three independent albums before signing to Fall Out Boy principal… Read more »
