Film Review: Parallel Mothers

Basically: A tale of friendship between two women who meet while giving birth in the hospital. I honestly don’t know how to write about this film. Pedro Almodóvar isn’t the type of filmmaker you get from the States or the UK where films tend to follow a simple format about a particular subject that goes from A to B to C etc. I first discovered Almodóvar in the 2000s, while I was in my twenties, and his multilayered stories about women were something I’d never experienced before. His films were not like the ones being made here in Hollywood. Almodóvar… Read more »

Film Review: The 355

Basically: The legendary codename for women in spycraft inspires a less than epic espionage-adventure. Have you heard the term ‘the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak’? Film Review: The Tender Bar

Basically: An old school coming of age drama based on a memoir.  You know what? I think it’s good we have Ben Affleck back. We’re in this weird cycle of him acting with Matt Damon again as well as appearing on the red carpet with Jennifer Lopez. I find it comforting to see Affleck back out and about and doing good work. That brings us to The Tender Bar. Directed by George Clooney, The Tender Bar is based on the memoir by  J. R. Moehringer about his youth and growing up. Daniel Ranieri and Tye Sheridan portray J.R. as a… Read more »
