If you’re going to preach at me it better be from the pulpit on Sunday while I’m having my nap, because YESTERDAY should’ve been a Saturday night and a lot more fun when it ended.
This past weekend’s Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee was marked with great performances, a friendly long-distance exchange between Post Malone and country music’s legendary singer Dolly Parton, and sadly, a death. On Saturday, a 27-year-old man with an underlying medical condition became unresponsive while attending the festival, having been camping with his father overnight at the event. The medical team was quick to arrive and attend to the man but he later passed at a local hospital. The legendary bluesman Malcolm Rebenack, better known as Dr. John, passed due to a fatal heart attack on June 6, 2019. Dr. John was also known as the “Night Tripper”. To say he had an impact on music and American culture does his influence no justice. He’s credited as one of the architects of the New Orleans blues and jazz sound. Some of us are familiar with his song “Right Place Wrong Time”, while his voice will be recognizable to younger generations from “The Princess and The Frog” soundtrack. Well this doesn’t really come as a surprise. It was being deemed “Fyre Fest 2.0,” as more and more reports came out of just how disorganized and a mess Woodstock 50 was becoming. The first sign of a problem was last week when they couldn’t even begin selling tickets because they didn’t have everything set up correctly. I personally tried reaching out for press credentials a while ago–and not only was it impossible to find out who was actually running Woodstock, getting a contact for them even proved more of a mess.
