For all the talk about Linkin Park killing off nü metal on the upcoming Minutes to Midnight, it’s rather puzzling that the first sound you hear on the album is the crackle of a needle hitting a record. Paris Hilton’s “simple life” has just gotten a lot more complicated. On Friday (May 4), a judge sentenced the hotel heiress to 45 days in Los Angeles County jail for violating the terms of her probation, Los Angeles Superior Court confirmed to MTV News. Hilton must report to the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Lynwood on June 5 or face a 90-day sentence. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame swung open its doors Monday night to the latest batch of acts ticketed for music immortality, with the Georgia alt-rock icons and the dysfunctional Pasadena party band leading the way. The Bad Religion guitarist and punk-rock entrepreneur never sat down for courses with a guitar instructor, although he did go to school to learn to be a recording engineer. Nearly half of the short films being screened at this month’s Sundance Film Festival will be available for purchase at Apple’s iTunes store under a deal announced Friday. The digital downloads will supplement the free streaming at Sundance’s Web site, which will offer the shorts for only a three-month period beginning Jan. 18, the start of the festival in Park City, Utah.
