Memphis musician Jimmy Jay Lindsey Jr., better known as Jay Reatard, was found dead in his home in Midtown’s Cooper-Young neighborhood this morning, according to family and friends. He was 29.

Gabe Saporta on drinking, surgery, new album


Three years ago, Cobra Starship weren’t even a band. Two years ago, they weren’t one either, but at least things were beginning to happen. Gabe Saporta – tired of watching his band Midtown being mired in the major-label quagmire – began writing songs on his own, under the name of Cobra Starship (apparently borrowed from a brand of vintage jackets). Warped Tour Lineup, Itinerary Officially Announced


The Vans Warped Tour has officially announced the lineup and itinerary for the 11th annual edition of the punk/skating tour. As previously reported by MTV News, the bill for the oldest touring festival in the U.S. will be topped by the Offspring and My Chemical Romance, along with the Transplants, MxPx, All-American Rejects, Dropkick Murphys, Thrice, Atreyu and Senses Fail. The 48-date tour, which kicks off on June 17 at the Germain Amphitheatre in Columbus, Ohio, will snake its way across the country through mid-August, wrapping up on August 14 at the Englishtown Raceway in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Washington – Some people can’t understand why Butch Walker would give Avril Lavigne a hit like “My Happy Ending” instead of keeping it for his own album, but the songwriter-musician says it’s all part of his plan. James Brown Undergoes Successful Surgery


Atlanta – James Brown underwent successful surgery Wednesday to treat his recently diagnosed prostate cancer. “Mr. Brown has successfully undergone a localized prostate cancer procedure and is resting comfortably,” Dr. James Bennett, his urologist, said in a statement. “We expect a full recovery. With proper follow-up and care, we can also expect a full cure.” The 71-year-old “Godfather of Soul” was released Wednesday afternoon from the Midtown Urology Surgical Center in Atlanta.
