AIDEN: Chaos and Conviction in '07

After a hectic year which saw the band crisscrossing the globe, performing to sold-out crowds and grabbing several awards, Seattle horror-punksters, Aiden are set to accomplish even more in 2007…with Conviction, which will be the title of their upcoming full-length effort on Victory Records. The band begins pre-production on their eagerly anticipated release January 15, according to leading WiL Francis, 14 songs have already been written. “I’ve never been more excited about new songs,” he declares. “I’ve never written songs like this, mainly because I was scared that it wasn’t “punk” enough. But I woke up one day and asked… Read more »

MTV Relaunches Little Brother MTV2

New York – Inside the giant factory of cool known as MTV headquarters, a crew of hip twentysomethings has been hard at work creating a two-headed monster. This beast wants to be man’s new best friend. On Sunday, during the Super Bowl halftime, MTV2 is relaunching with a new focus on 12-24 year-old guys – and a new logo. This silhouette of a dog with two heads (you may have seen the intentionally vague posters) is at the center of the new MTV2. The revamped network will maintain most of its current music programming, bonded with swirling graphics and constant… Read more »

Rockers Start Writing, Writers Rock

New York – In 2001, Martin Amis, Rick Moody and other authors and artists gathered in New York to honor a peer they regarded as a giant of the times. They compared him to Walt Whitman, Mark Twain and Arthur Rimbaud. They called him a bard, a shaman and a master of “art as revenge.” That man was Bob Dylan. Had he lived in England, he’d be Sir Bob Dylan, maybe even Lord. Scholarly books have compared him to Dante and Keats; admirers lobby for him to get the Nobel Prize. At a 1997 Kennedy Center ceremony, where fellow honorees… Read more »

German Cannibal Helps Rammstein Write New Single

The message posted in an Internet chat room read, “Seeking well-built man, 18-30 years old for slaughter.” A few months later, a user responded: “I offer myself to you and will let you dine from my live body. Not butchery, dining!!” It wasn’t a joke, and what followed was far more gruesome and bizarre than the plot of nearly any horror film. In March 2001, Armin Meiwes, a 42-year-old computer technician in Hesse, Germany, killed, dismembered and ate 43-year-old microchip engineer Bernd Juergen Brandes. While Brandes was still alive, the two dined on parts of his flesh together, then Meiwes… Read more »

Green Day Craft Punk Opera

“It’s our most ambitious album to date,” says Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day’s forthcoming American Idiot, a concept record the trio has dubbed a “punk rock opera.” The sprawling thirteen-song album, due in September, tells the tales of such characters as “Saint Jimmy” and an unnamed female protagonist “Whatzhername” living in a heated political climate. “I wanted to try to find some human relationship throughout it,” Armstrong says. “A lot of it is coming from trying to have a relationship between different people and yourself, but being surrounded by total chaos… I didn’t want to make people feel like… Read more »

Backstreet Boys Rekindling Fire In Studio After Three Years

The Backstreet Boys are in sync again. “It’s been like three years since we’ve all been in the studio together, so it’s like the fire was rekindled,” is how Nick Carter described the reunion during a recent break from recording. “We’re in there experimenting and really cool stuff’s coming out. It’s not gonna be the same Backstreet. I mean, you’re always gonna have Backstreet Boys, but the music’s gonna change.” The group plans to update the teen-pop sound it mastered in the late ’90s with a more mature approach to production and songwriting. “We’re just not doing it like we… Read more »

The Blob That Ate TV

Two weeks after the Super Bowl, it’s already hard to remember the final score and who played. But Janet Jackson’s breast has taken on a life of its own. As shocking – shocking! – as the nation’s collective horror was over the episode, the script for this stunt was written long ago. You may recall: The year was 1958; it was Steve McQueen’s memorable movie debut. Still need another hint? It almost ate an entire town. That’s right, “The Blob.” A gigantic, gooey mass roars to earth from outer space and proceeds to terrorize Smalltown, USA, a hamlet filled with… Read more »
