Blink-182 take us inside their wild pre-tour party

LOS ANGELES – There was a mariachi band, flaming margaritas and lots of musicians on Monday night at the El Compadre Mexican restaurant as Blink-182 took over the joint for a fiesta in celebration of their upcoming summer tour. And while there were many festivities – the mariachi band belted out Blink tunes and the margaritas went late into the night – the party also served another function: breaking the ice. After all, when you’ve got a tour that’s positively packed with bands (not just Weezer and Fall Out Boy, but a rotating cast of opening acts like Panic at… Read more »

Blink-182 announces summer tour

If it hadn’t been for drummer Travis Barker’s near-fatal airplane crash last year, Blink-182 might not be touring this summer. But after a five-year hiatus, the rock trio — Barker, Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge — will embark on a nearly 50-date North American arena and amphitheater tour, beginning July 24th at the Joint in Las Vegas and wrapping October 3rd at the Borgata Events Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Bartelsmann to Plot New Course Without Sony

When Hartmut Ostrowski was an up-and-comer in Bertelsmann’s printing and services division in the 1990s, his bosses were discouraged from speaking at meetings of the top executives. In the glamorous world of Bertelsmann, a global media empire with music, television, and publishing properties – Germany’s answer to Time Warner – services were viewed as strictly a backstage function. Now, with Mr. Ostrowski at the helm of Bertelsmann, the stagehands are striding into the spotlight. Two weeks ago, he named Markus Dohle, a 39-year-old German who runs the company’s printing operations, as chief executive of Random House, the world’s largest consumer… Read more »

An Open Invitation To Hilary Duff (From The daily Collegian)

It’s officially ok for me to start dating Hilary Duff. In case you haven’t heard, she’s a college girl now, cramming in a few online classes in her free time through the Harvard Extension School. Unfortunately, when she made this announcement on her Web site a month ago, she chose to omit the word “Extension” and in doing so implied that she went to the “real” Harvard. And let me tell you, the Harvard kids were wicked pissed. Within days, the editorial staff of “The Crimson,” Harvard’s school newspaper, published an “Oh no you didn’t, girl” editorial calling Duff a… Read more »
