The tiny, unassuming city of Devore, California, will be transformed into a punk-rock Mecca next month when it hosts a show featuring the Sex Pistols, X, Bad Religion, the Vandals, Unwritten Law, New Found Glory and others. The September 14 KROQ Inland Invasion concert at the 65,000-seat Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion will also feature the Damned, the Adolescents, the Distillers, T.S.O.L. and G.B.H, according to a source close to the show. Columbia Records Group said on Friday that Will Botwin was named president of the label, succeeding Don Ienner, who remains chairman. Ienner assumed the title of president in 1989 at age 36, making him the youngest president in the label’s 119-year history. He was also its longest-serving president. He became chairman in 1994. Columbia, home to such stars as Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan and Offspring, is a unit of Sony Music Entertainment, which is a unit of Sony Corp. After three months of heartfelt September 11 benefits, lots of musicians, including Ozzy Osbourne, No Doubt, Korn, Weezer and Elton John, are starting to focus once again on their own financial concerns. A bunch of successful musicians from a variety of genres have united to organize four simultaneous benefit concerts for the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC), a group that seeks to create more equitable standards for recording musicians. Pop stars including Elton John, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow and the Eagles will perform a series of concerts the night before the Grammys to raise money for a fledgling group of performers seeking better treatment by major record labels, organizers said Wednesday.
