Townshend Readies New Scoop

Pete Townshend has wrapped work on the third installment in his Scoop series of demos and outtakes. The Who guitarist has sent the recordings to be mastered by Jon Astley, who co-produced Who Are You as well as several Who reissues and has also done production work for Eric Clapton. The two-disc set is “less really old demos than usual perhaps,” Townshend wrote of the album on his Web site. “There is a lot of music from the last ten years.” Townshend also calls Scoop 3 the “only new creative release I’ve completed since Psychoderelict in 1992.” He claims that… Read more »

Dido Talks Tour, Britney

On Dido’s North American tour, which kicks off next week in Vancouver, she’ll offer fans a preview of her next album. Shifty Shellshock Shell-Shocked

“I have butterflies in my stomach right now,” the Crazy Town singer said just before his band’s smooth “Butterfly” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in late April. “I’m so used to things going wrong,” Shellshock said. “Now that something good has happened to me, I’m just waiting for it to hit the mountaintop and roll back down.” Maybe he was worried that Crazy Town’s plan to scale the charts appeared to have fizzled out. After two hard-edged singles, the band had come up empty: no hits and anemic record sales. At which point most labels would… Read more »

Publishers Set To Pile On Napster

Napster’s legal troubles could be about to get a whole lot worse, as thousands of music publishers could enter into a class-action suit against the file-trading company. Independent musicians, however, are still shut out of the litigation. As part of a copyright infringement case against Napster in federal district court on Tuesday, Judge Marilyn Hall said that 27,000 music publishers would likely be allowed the opportunity to consolidate their cases into one class-action suit. While issuing no formal ruling, Patel said she expected to create a “limited class” of plaintiffs by determining a specific time frame during which publishers from… Read more »
