Host Tate Logan is a singer/songwriter and member of the LGTBQIA+ community. “Punk Goes Pride” is a radio show dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies, focused on queerness in pop culture from music, tv, film, books and more The conversations are fun, silly, light-hearted and honest to highlight the experience of queer artists as natural and normal. On Sunday, June 26th, we participated in Pride along with the Los Angeles LGBT Center at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The event itself was a giant picnic with bars, food trucks, face painting, and the idobi Radio photo experience. The entertainment was DJ Nico blasting the best, high-energy, party music and a drag show with Queens Amber Crane and Lauren Banall. There was something for everyone here, just as Pride should be. This week we interview artist, activist and choreographer, Kat Cunning (they/them)! They debuted on Broadway in Liaison Dangereuses (Janet McTeer, Liev Schreiber) and in Cirque du Soleil in addition to acting alongside James Franco in HBO’s The Deuce, and most recently, JLo in Marry Me (Universal). Kat is also thrilled to be contributing to authentic LGBTQAI+ representation as a non-binary role in Netflix’s upcoming Purple Hearts and making another anticipated appearance in Issa Rae’s Rap Shit on HBO Max.

Last year a report from USC brought to light that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up less than 6% of speaking roles in the entertainment industry and 4% of lead roles. The study looked at 13,000 popular films and found that of the 4% with AAPI leads, only 6 were women, 0 were women over 40, 0 were in the LGBTQ+ community, and 14 were Dwayne Johnson.
