The follow-up to Weezer’s second self-titled album, dubbed the ” Green Album,” will be titled Maladroit, and it’s currently in the mixing stage of production. The title was suggested by a member of the Weezer message boards on the band’s website. “Lethe,” as the fan is known, will be credited on the album for his artistic input. Weezer tracked about 30 new songs for the release, which the band will narrow down to a number in the teens. After three months of heartfelt September 11 benefits, lots of musicians, including Ozzy Osbourne, No Doubt, Korn, Weezer and Elton John, are starting to focus once again on their own financial concerns. A bunch of successful musicians from a variety of genres have united to organize four simultaneous benefit concerts for the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC), a group that seeks to create more equitable standards for recording musicians. Six months after returning to store shelves, Weezer are ready to make their follow-up. The band will soon enter a Hollywood studio to record its fourth album, according to an Interscope Records spokesperson. The LP’s scheduled April 30 release date may seem optimistic, but it’s not like the diligent group is starting from scratch. Last month’s terrorist attacks have played a hand in thwarting yet another tour, this time claiming Weezer’s planned 16-date European trek that was to begin in Copenhagen on October 9. While Weezer prepare to kick off the most recent leg of their tour in support of their third self-titled release, better known as “The Green Album,” the band is already looking ahead to its next record, which is tentatively set for a May 2002 release. Prior to the 14-date trek, which will wrap up on Sept. 29 in New York, Cold has a handful of shows from Aug. 25 in Southern California through Sept. 3 in Hartford, Conn. Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh has checked into a psychiatric hospital for treatment of an undisclosed ailment, leaving his bandmates to shoot a video without him, according to band assistant Karl Koch. When Weezer said they wanted to get back into the studio as soon as possible after the release of their new album, they weren’t kidding.
