Following much hemming and boatload of hawing, all is set in stone for Weezer’s many-moons-in-the-making third album. Produced by Ric Ocasek, The Green Album will drop as planned on May 15th, it’s cover art closely resembling that of the band’s eponymous debut (lovingly called “The Blue Album”) – a picture of the foursome against a solid backdrop. The nod to their 1994 nerd-core breakthrough is no doubt intentional, a clear signal that Rivers Cuomo and Co. have returned, at least in part, to the signature neo-New Wave sound somewhat absent from 1996’s poorer-selling second album, Pinkerton. According to a posting… Read more »
Trek’s organizers say band pulled out; group’s spokesperson says contract was never signed. Say it ain’t so – Weezer have dropped off the Vans Warped Tour, according to a spokesperson for the summer skate-punk trek. The band’s Geffen publicist, however, said on Friday (April 6) that Weezer were never officially on the bill in the first place, despite an announcement by tour organizer Kevin Lyman Productions in early February. “They had the offer, but they never confirmed it,” Dennis Dennehy said. “The band apologizes for psyching anyone up inadvertently,” a posting on Weezer’s Web site said Friday. An earlier post… Read more »

It has been quite a few years of ups and downs for Games We Play. His debut record, Life’s Going Great, released via Fueled By Ramen/DCD2 Records, focuses on what we lose when we follow our dreams. Shining the spotlight on insecurity, burn-out, and a broken marriage, Emmyn Calleiro, the mastermind behind the project, writes about the side of success that is rarely discussed but often felt immensely. His lyrics are unapologetically honest, cutting straight to the substance of everything that has happened in the last 12 months. But rather than wallowing, Games We Play turns his pain into self-deprecating… Read more »

Indio Downey, poised to release his debut solo EP, Cigarettes In Bed, on January 19, 2024, beckons with a soul-stirring prelude—his latest single, “Dume.” This resonant composition stands as the third preview to the forthcoming 6-track opus, peeling back the layers of Downey’s past struggles with addiction. Under the guise of a symphony of shimmering synths, a heavy bassline, and Downey’s mellifluous delivery, “Dume” serves as a caustic metaphor, intricately entangling the threads of a fatal attraction to the seductive allure of self-destruction. In the broader view, Cigarettes In Bed emerges as a labyrinth of one’s own vulnerabilities and arduous… Read more »
