There are tons of amazing bands playing this year who you don’t need to be told to check out, but to make sure you also find some of the lesser-known gems on the lineup, here are ten up-and-coming artists we think your SBSW experience wouldn’t be complete without in this week’s Tuesday Ten.
The Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing, Michigan, have just announced the first round of bands for this summer.
Shaky Knees festival takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 9 – 11 and they’ve got a pretty solid lineup this year. Headliners will be The National and Modest Mouse (with one more still to be announced). The Gaslight Anthem, Portugal. the Man, Dropkick Murphys, Conor Oberst, Cold War Kids, Jason Isbell, and Trampled By Turtles are just a few of the other bands playing, making it one of the more varied lineups I’ve seen announced so far. Tickets will be available here on January 17th, starting at $150.
Another day, another festival. Last week it was Coachella, yesterday it was Firefly, and today it’s the long-awaited announcement of the 2014 Governors Ball festival in NYC. It takes place from June 6 – 8 at Randall’s Island Park in NYC, and tickets go on sale at 3pm, so clear your schedule so you can make sure you get them! They’ve got a stacked lineup this year including a recently reunited Outkast, Jack White, and Vampire Weekend at the top of the bill. A Day To Remember have launched the Self Help festival, taking place in San Bernandino, CA next March.
The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Acts playing the festival this year include You Me At Six, The Sounds, The Dismemberment Plan, NGHBRS, Echosmith, Braid, and more.
