Film Review: Tragedy Girls
‘Tragedy Girls’ is and isn’t what it seems to be—don’t get it twisted, it is a very good horror comedy—but like any charming psychopath the movie grabs you with its duality and its duplicity.

When Janine Giandomenico’s son explained his school project to her, she dismissed his worries and figured she’d have to fork out a few bucks for poster board, magazines and a glue stick or two.
Attention fans of strawberry hair accessories: You’re about to lose Katy Perry forever. Well, actually, you’ll probably have her in your camp until about October, because that’s when she’ll begin work on the follow-up to her breakthrough “One of the Boys” album, which she pledges will be a strawberry-free affair. “I definitely want to make a follow-up pop, fun record. I’m not looking to alienate my fans, but I can’t be that grown-up Shirley Temple girl wearing the stupid strawberry in her hair all the time … because I’d kill myself or someone else would for me,” Perry laughed. “So… Read more »
What the Spice Girls really, really want is to set the record straight: Despite rumors to the contrary, no concert tour dates have been scrapped. The pop stars are calling foul on reports that they scuttled a January gig in Buenos Aires and instead planned to add more dates in the U.S. and U.K. due to heavier demand. The report circulated after a fake email, purportedly disseminated from Spice Girls HQ, made the rounds, claiming the group had pulled out of the South America gig. “The Spice Girls would like to let fans know they have not canceled their concert… Read more »
The Spice Girls are still oceans apart when it comes to getting together. First, it was Live 8 in 2005, and this time it’s the July 1 tribute to Princess Diana that the ’90s-era British pop stars will not be performing at, sticking a fork in yet another rumor that Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger and Posh are ready to take the stage again. “Despite media speculation at this time, there is no confirmation of a Spice reunion,” Victoria Beckham’s rep, Cheryl Maisel, told E! News. “Victoria is moving to L.A., Emma is due to have a baby and Mel B… Read more »
Somewhere between the slight goofiness of the barbershop quartet and the life-or-death dramatics of the opera, there lies a cappella, a form of harmonized singing usually reserved for bow-tie-clad lawyers-to-be at Ivy League colleges across the Northeast. But one group of students at George Washington University is aiming to change all that, by bringing a cappella to the hoodie and studded-belt set. They’re called Emocapella (spelled with one “p,” which, in itself, is way emo), a bunch of sensitive lads who harmonize tunes by emo faves like Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday and Saves the Day at nearly sold-out concerts… Read more »
At the very least, give credit to New Found Glory and Good Charlotte for getting teenage girls enthusiastic about rock that has real guitars and real drums. More than that, those two pop-punk bands deserve to be saluted for the energy and enthusiasm they displayed at their show Wednesday night at the University of California, Irvine’s Bren Events Center. But no one can applaud them for nuance or finesse. Their performances are like this: Go from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds, and keep it there. The kids who filled the Bren Center loved it. They screamed, sang along (especially… Read more »
B2K spent Wednesday (May 8) and Thursday (May 9) in North Hollywood and Van Nuys, California taping the video for “Why I Love You,” the third single from its self-titled album that has sold nearly 500,000 copies since its March release. The album’s second single “Gots Ta Be” is Number 15 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. IMX members Batman, Romeo, and L.D.B.; B2K protege Jhene; and actress Kyla Pratt from the UPN series One On One were on the set Thursday. IMX tapped a scene on the basketball courts with B2K members Omarion, Raz-B, J-Boog, and Li’l… Read more »
Atlantic Records has announced the forthcoming release of the new studio album from Tori Amos. Entitled “STRANGE LITTLE GIRLS,” this assemblage of songs is due in stores on September 18th. All the songs on the album were written by men, but are performed by Tori from the perspectives of a diverse cast of female characters. Songs composed by such artists as Neil Young, the Stranglers, Eminem, Depeche Mode, Slayer, Lou Reed, Lennon/McCartney, and others are taken apart and put back together darkly, gently, and in an uncompromising fashion. In crafting the new album, Tori wanted to talk about men –… Read more »
