Mixing EDM and metalcore is on the rise. The Amity Affliction is the most recent artist to jump on this trend and has reimagined their song “Show Me Your God” with DJ PROBLM CHLD. The bouncy trance, sometimes dubstep-esqe beat, is a different way to listen to the Australian act. Earlier this year, the group also dropped their new album, Not Without My Ghosts, which includes features from phem and posthumous rapper Louie Knuxx.
With reworked songs, sometimes it can take time to get used to new sounds, flow, and even sometimes fewer vocals. But guitarist Dan Brown says, “I was instantly so happy with it. We’ve had things remixed or reimagined in the past, and they’ve all been great to listen to. But generally, it takes time to warm up to them. This version of ‘Show Me Your God’ hooked me in straight away.” The atmospheric melodies from the remix produce an almost relaxing trance-house throughout, aside from the harder bass drops that could even cause a metalhead to meditate.
With The Amity Affliction experimenting in this area of sound, it signifies that this is one step into metalcore being more than moshing in the pit. With previous non-metal and rock collabs on their recent album, fans shouldn’t be shocked by the electronic wave that has begun to hit the alternative music scene. Events like Emo Nite LA have introduced “Grave Rave,” which incorporates pop and EDM songs with the emo bangers we know and love. If anything, we have to thank Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, aka vocalist of From First To Last, for blending genres.
