In classic MUNA fashion, the trio surprised fans at The Greek Theatre with a fun cover. During their headlining shows on both October 11 and 12, the “Silk Chiffon” musicians covered “Since U Been Gone,” Kelly Clarkson‘s 2004 hit single.
YouTube user @LizElze recorded the entire cover and noted in the video’s caption, “we all went a little feral for this ngl.” Check out the full cover below.
This YouTube user was not lying, as TikTok user Jasmine Graham shared a video with the caption, “Help Katie told everyone off.” No worries, as “telling off” the crowd was all in good fun. Lead vocalist Katie Gavin began singing the song to extremely excited fans and jokingly said, “You don’t have to scream it.”
On top of this now-beloved cover by MUNA, the band also yielded scream-inducing concert moments as they invited The Trans Chorus of Los Angeles to sing “Kind of Girl.” Additionally, boygenius joined MUNA onstage for the show closer “Silk Chiffon,” which is basically the best way to end any show.
Following their two headlining nights at The Greek Theatre, MUNA shared on Instagram, “thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who came to the greek shows in los angeles. what a thrill it was to be under the stars with you, we are truly floored by your kindness and generosity. here are some photos from night one. will post night two photos later but gotta sleep for 4000 hours.”
It’s only fair that MUNA shares their own rendition of Clarkson, as the American Idol winner shared a cover of “Stayaway” during her Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
