Biden’s First Day and He’s Not Messing Around
Yesterday was a historic day of celebration. While the world partied, President Biden wasted no time getting to work signing a slew of executive orders, many of which reverse policies made by the Trump administration. Biden reassured the masses that change is coming, the orders tackle: the pandemic, immigration and visas, climate change, racial and LGBT equality, the economy, and government accountability.
Regarding the pandemic and its urgency, Biden signed an order that requires masks and social distancing on all federal property, as well as encourages citizens to do the same with the 100 Day Mask Challenge. In addition to re-joining both the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Accords, he is reversing many of the unjust policies from the Trump administration.
Some other orders we are most excited about include continuing to pause student loan debt until the end of summer, with a potential $10,000 forgiveness for public servants, directing the Domestic Policy Council to find and report equity within their ranks within the first 200 days, and reinforcing Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits the federal government from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
These are some hefty orders and promises for his first 100 days. We are on the right path but we know there is more to do. Biden isn’t perfect, he’s more moderate than many of us want, but he has a team of people pushing for more and we must continue to ensure they are all listening. Come on student debt cancellation!

Michelle, Barack, Kamala, Amanda, Eugene, Dr. Jill, Gaga, JLo, yesterday’s inauguration was full of incredible fashion to ring in new beginnings, but there was one fashionista’s ensemble so bold…so powerful…that it has taken the internet by storm. You guessed it, Bernie Sanders! progressives’ favorite cozy grandpa has once again found himself meme-ified with his big coat and adorable wool mittens. A photo of him all bundled up instantly became a sensation when the internet put him in all types of situations. Check out some of our favorites!

Heads Up, Biden Did Not in Fact Erase Women

Biden’s executive order: “Every person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear, no matter who they are or whom they love.”
TERFs: pic.twitter.com/QSbqVkWvhb
After President Biden reinforced Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, TERDs…uh, I mean TERFs, did their thing and took to Twitter with the hashtag #BidenErasedWomen, referencing their blatant transphobia. What warms our little hearts is how quickly the ridiculous phrase was co-opted. If you look up the hashtag, the majority of hatred is all but buried by people calling them out for their harmful stupidity. Leave it to Twitter to call a bitch out. Oh, and we motion to end the term TERF. Read us loud and clear, you cannot be a feminist if you exclude trans women. We vote to change the term to TERD, Trans Exclusionary Radical Dumbass.

Celebrating America: Hell Yeah
Due to the pandemic and recent safety concerns, the Biden administration skipped the traditional inaugural parades and opted instead for an hour titled Celebrating America. Taking orders from its name, the program recognized everyday people for their acts of kindness and service throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. It also featured some incredible musical performances with a common theme, a fresh start and come back from adversity. Some of our favorite performances of the night include John Legend covering the iconic Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”, Justin Timberlake and Ant Clemons joining a choir to sing “Better Days”, Foo Fighters’ powerful reimagining of their song “Times Like These”, and Demi Lovato’s cover of the late Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day”. The night was appropriately capped off with Katy Perry performing “Firework” beneath an incredible display of well…fireworks. We definitely didn’t cry during this…nope! Not one time!
