L.S. Dunes — Violet

L.S. DunesViolet is a masterclass in how to create a sophomore album—sharpening the urgency introduced on their debut, leaning harder into their collective prowess, and building on their already explosive momentum. The record thrives on push-and-pull dynamics that range from tight, coiled verses that explode into massive hooks (“Forgiveness”), all while keeping the band’s post-hardcore throughline intact. Standout tracks like “Paper Tigers,” “Holograms,” and the title track make this album one of the most gripping releases of the year (and without a doubt this writer’s Album Of The Year). —Paige Owens

Silverstein — Antibloom

One half of Silverstein’s ambitious double-album release, Antibloom finds the band sharpening every instinct that’s kept them vital for more than two decades. It balances melody and abrasion with a sense of purpose that feels earned—proof that evolution doesn’t require abandoning their identity. Songs like “Confession” and “Skin & Bones” reinforce Silverstein’s position as one of post-hardcore’s most reliable and enduring forces. —Paige Owens

Spiritbox — Tsunami Sea

Tsunami Sea stands as Spiritbox’s most expansive release, finding the band operating at full scale, stretching their sound wider without losing the crushing weight that made them impossible to ignore in the first place. The album moves fluidly between brutality and restraint, with frontwoman Courtney LaPlante creating a sense of constant unease beneath its surface. With moments like “Soft Spine” and the title cut, Spiritbox confidently steers past the sophomore slump by miles. —Paige Owens

Coheed And Cambria — The Father Of Make Believe

Japanese Breakfast — For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)

Much like Japanese Breakfast’s earlier releases, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) masters intimacy without being fragile, wrapping lush arrangements around quiet self-examination. The album breathes—giving its emotions room to settle and linger rather than rush. “Orlando In Love” and “Picture Window” have earned their place in the band’s most-streamed tracks. —Paige Owens

Mayday Parade — Sweet

Sweet sounds like Mayday Parade remembering exactly why their songwriting hits so hard in the first place. It leans into emotional directness without apology, pairing sincerity with the kind of heartache the band has always owned so well. “By The Way” stands as the record’s centerpiece, easily sliding into the band’s early-era canon and proving Mayday Parade hasn’t lost their grip on vulnerability. —Paige Owens

Heart Attack Man — Joyride The Pale Horse

Heart Attack Man pushed the boundaries of their own discography with their 2025 record, Joyride The Pale Horse. After making major waves in the pop-punk and emo scenes with Fake Blood (2019) and Freak Of Nature (2023), the Cleveland crew leveled up their latest offering with not just sonic maturity but emotional growth, too, as they trade in early 20-something woes and reckon with mortality and the fragility of life.

Vocalist Eric Egan said it best in an interview with idobi Radio, “We’re balancing that light and dark with the moments where the humor and the self-awareness and all that is shining through.” And for those who adored Egan’s exquisite soaring vocals on bangers such as “Laughing Without Smiling” and viscous pop-punk riffs on “Spit,” rest assured, Heart Attack Man isn’t going anywhere and will continue to push the genre envelope. Frankly, we’re ready for HAMMY world domination, and we shall live to see the day. — Maria Serra

Sleep Theory — Afterglow

Sleep Theory succeeded in getting their chart-topping debut album, Afterglow, “Stuck In My Head.” Between the opener “Static” to “Gravity” and “Numb,” the Memphis, Tennessee band, anchored by Cullen Moore, balances towering choruses with darker undercurrents; they even managed to have several songs go viral on social media. This debut has positioned Sleep Theory as one of the most promising breakout acts. —Paige Owens

Turnstile — Never Enough

Ya know what…Turnstile perfectly named this album, because new and old fans alike can’t listen to it enough times. Never Enough, boasting the likes of “Birds,” “Seein’ Stars” (with Hayley Williams background vocals), “Light Design,” the act perfectly elevates the alternative sphere as they journey through classic punk-rock riffs, ethereal indie sonics, and dazzling hardcore hooks. Excitingly, the group is the first band ever nominated for Grammys in categories for rock, metal, and alternative…and we hope they bring home a win…or two…or all five!

Additionally, Turnstile released a visual album in movie theaters in tandem with their album release, marking one of the most exciting immersive experiences for fans who didn’t get to see them live in 2025. — Maria Serra

The Aces — Gold Star Baby

Hey, there, it’s me, your resident Aces superfan. This year, the quartet proved that disco is exactly what we need. Let’s not sugarcoat what happened in 2025…women/queer/POC rights were and are getting stripped away more and more each day. While fear may be in some hearts, rightfully so, dancing and celebration are important when it comes to keeping up the fight. Uniquely, this mirrors the same political landscape of the 1970s—when disco was at its height! The Aces give disco enchantment, Latin pop prowess, brooding ballad, and indie darling dreamscapes all in one album.

Gold Star Baby isn’t just an album, it’s a sonic escape from a rather grim reality with hits such as “Jealous,” “Twin Flame,” and “The Magic.” Vocalist Cristal Ramirez says, “I turn [Gold Star Baby] on and I feel like I get to be the best version of myself. Like that’s the person I always wanted to be when I was a kid, daydreaming. It just feels like a celebration to me.” — Maria Serra

The Dirty Nil — The Lash

mgk — Lost Americana

Lost Americana sees mgk pulling his pop-punk instincts into a broader, moodier landscape without losing momentum, tracing love, regret, and reinvention across distorted guitars and modern pop structures. The lead single, “cliché,” along with “vampire diaries” and “sweet caroline,” are the heart of the release. —Paige Owens
