Gorillaz Get the Netflix Boot

Once upon a time, we were excited over the announcement of a full-length animated film about Gorillaz. The idea seemed perfect for an animated band that has had a long career. Now Netflix is breaking our hearts and canceling the project. This comes with Netflix making budget cuts for their animation department.  In an interview promoting their new album, Cracker Island, Damon Albarn told HUMO (translated by Stereogum), “They started to panic because they were making too much content and decided to cut back on their movie offerings. And, as has been classic Hollywood practice for decades, the guy we… Read more »

EMI Say Coldplay, Gorillaz Responsible For Declining Profits

We know Coldplay are capable of wooing Gwyneth Paltrow, creating a media circus in Toronto and selling out concert halls in a matter of seconds. But it turns out the British softies are also responsible for a declining profit from EMI Group, their record company. Reuters reports British-based EMI, the world’s third-largest music company, said its full-year profit fell after delays in two key albums from Coldplay and the animated band Gorillaz. Gorillaz Are Actually '80-Year-Old Musicians In Wheelchairs'

Numerous critics and closed-minded fans have been less than kind about cartoon supergroup Gorillaz’s decision to play live shows hidden behind large projector screens displaying comic images of the characters. But the minor agony of journalistic slings and arrows is nothing compared to headaches the band experienced right before the tour launched in Toronto on February 23. “We lost our original bass player on the first day through something slightly dubious that happened 15 years ago,” said vocalist Damon Albarn, who also fronts the band Blur. “Basically, he’s in prison now. But fortunately, at the 11th hour we found a… Read more »
