British public broadcaster BBC’s Radio 1 has cut out the word “faggot” from an old Christmas hit in a move the mother of the song’s late performer branded “ridiculous.” In “Fairytale of New York,” released 20 years ago by Irish band the Pogues and singer Kirsty MacColl, she sings “You scumbag, you maggot/You cheap lousy faggot” as her character in the song argues with one sung by Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. Chaotic rock star Pete Doherty has said he will move in with Shane McGowan after his most recent stint in rehab. The Babyshambles frontman is undergoing yet another legally enforced attempt to kick his addictions to heroin and crack cocaine. When he comes out of rehab, however, he will have nowhere to live and will therefore move in with the wild-living Pogues singer Shane McGowan above North London rock ‘n’ roll haunt the Boogaloo Bar. Babyshambles’ new album Shotters Nation, which has received positive reviews, will be released in the U.K. on October 1.
