TheBillboardChart Needs a Streaming Makeover With All Time Low’s number one album debut debunked by the new Billboard standard, many people in our scene posed the question if we need to rethink the way Billboard included streaming into it’s tallies. Right now, every 1,500 streams of a song off an album = 1 album sale. Thomas Nassiff of Absolutepunk wrote a wonderful short piece on the matter. In my opinion, it’s crap. CMJ Music Marathon announces artist lineup


The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Acts playing the festival this year include You Me At Six, The Sounds, The Dismemberment Plan, NGHBRS, Echosmith, Braid, and more. Live Nation bid for Warner Music Group


Music powerhouse Live Nation Entertainment Inc. is bidding to buy part of Warner Music Group Corp., according to people familiar with the matter, a move that could combine under one roof the world’s third-largest recorded-music company with the biggest concert promoter, artist-management firm and events-ticketing operation. Live Nation is interested in Warner’s recorded-music operation, not its music publishing division, according to the people familiar with the matter. It’s not clear how much Live Nation offered, or how aggressively it may participate in further rounds of bidding. Warner Music and Live Nation declined to comment. Jackson’s FBI files lack any significant disclosures


Despite monitoring him for more than a decade, the FBI did not uncover any major revelations about Michael Jackson’s private life nor did it find any solid evidence against him in connection with two different molestation allegations, according to newly released files.

Music industry to stop suing music swappers


LOS ANGELES — The group representing the U.S. recording industry said Friday it has abandoned its policy of suing people for sharing songs protected by copyright and will work with Internet service providers to cut abusers’ access if they ignore repeated warnings. The move ends a controversial program that saw the Recording Industry Association of America sue about 35,000 people since 2003 for swapping songs online. Because of high legal costs for defenders, virtually all of those hit with lawsuits settled, on average for around $3,500. The association’s legal costs, in the meantime, exceeded the settlement money it brought in.… Read more »
