Green Day lead the charge of artists unveiling new material in the game. Britney Spears Cuts Ties With Restaurant

Whether Britney Spears is a girl or a woman, she’s no longer a restaurateur. Spears has pulled out of Nyla, the midtown Manhattan eatery she opened just five months ago. The pop star, who turns 21 on Monday, said in a statement that she has “terminated her relationship” with the restaurant she formed a partnership with in March because of mismanagement and “management’s failure to keep her fully apprised.” The restaurant at the Dylan Hotel, which she named for New York and her home state of Louisiana, served Southern-inspired cuisine. But it was plagued by lousy reviews and slow business;… Read more »

Five Questions With Nick Carter

Even though Nick Carter has sold more than 36 million records as one of the Backstreet Boys, he thinks of himself as just another new artist with the debut of his “Now or Never” album. “I’m really… like somebody who hasn’t sold a record,” says Carter, the youngest member of the group and the first to release a solo album. But he’s got one advantage over other aspiring singers: an instant fan base. Some two dozen fans waited outside his midtown Manhattan hotel recently, hoping to see him. “These are the small things that mean so much to me,” says… Read more »

Anastasio Finds Life After Phish

Trey Anastasio spent 17 years ripping genres apart and sticking them back together at odd angles with the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink uber-jam band Phish. So maybe it’s no surprise he’s whipped up another unusual concoction: a jam/swing hybrid dotted with sugary-sweet love songs and chamber music. The self-titled release has the elements you’d expect from Anastasio, from the drawn-out, frenetic jams to the catchy guitar riffs. But it’s also a departure: It’s got horns, it’s got soul, it’s got more horns. It’s clearly not a Phish album hiding under a different name. “I’ve been listening to a lot of big band music,”… Read more »
