O come, all ye Colbert faithful. Stephen Colbert will host his own Christmas special this year, Comedy Central announced Tuesday. “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” will air Nov. 23 as a one-hour special. It will be a musical special featuring John Legend, Elvis Costello, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Feist – and “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, who’s slated to sing a duet with Colbert of a song simply titled “Hanukkah.” (The song Colbert is to sing with Nelson appears to be a version of “The Little Drummer Boy” – called “Little Dealer Boy.”) Most of the… Read more »
British public broadcaster BBC’s Radio 1 has cut out the word “faggot” from an old Christmas hit in a move the mother of the song’s late performer branded “ridiculous.” In “Fairytale of New York,” released 20 years ago by Irish band the Pogues and singer Kirsty MacColl, she sings “You scumbag, you maggot/You cheap lousy faggot” as her character in the song argues with one sung by Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. MacColl died in 2000 when she was killed by a speedboat off the coast of Mexico. The song is a perennial favorite in Britain around Christmas time, and is… Read more »

Washington – The Donnas admit they once stole something from a Christmas food drive collection, but it really was in the spirit of the season – and probably saved someone from certain illness. “It was like this stuff called Fluff, which is the same as marshmallow creme, which is in the jar,” bassist Maya Ford told AP Radio in a recent interview. “It’s really old-fashioned.” “But this one was from, like, the ’60s,” added guitarist Allison Robertson. Best known for their hit “Take It Off,” the alt-rockers said the taking occurred during a Christmas charity concert at which they performed.… Read more »
Once upon a time, holiday shoppers fought over Cabbage Patch Dolls and Beanie Babies. This year, they’re going to the mat over iPods. The world’s most popular portable music player is in short supply, leaving many potential gift buyers disappointed. Apple Computer has been unable to keep up with demand for the sleek little player, a Stereophile “Recommended Component.” Most models are on back-order, and most retailers are completely out of stock, according to retailing reports that appeared in mid-December.
