We caught up with an extremely talented (and young) band that is creating a lot of buzz at this year’s Warped tour, Echosmith. The band consists of siblings that are no older than 20-years-old. They’ve landed a major record deal, and are probably one of the most ridiculously talented bands we’ve ever seen play Warped Tour. We’re impatiently awaiting their first album release. This week I have Chris Demakes, singer and guitarist for Less Than Jake on the show! Less Than Jake are the band that holds the record for playing the most Warped Tours ever as well as being a main fixture in the punk and ska scene since 1992! A lot to talk about with Chris in this almost 2 year old very relevant interview. Tune into this one, you definitely don’t want to miss it!
This week I have a huge talent on my show, I have Karina Denike from The Dancehall Crashers and NOFX on the show! We touch on a lot of Dancehall Crashers stuff who are also back after 20 years and playing Warped Tour this year! We touch on the final NOFX shows and we also touch on her ongoing solo Jazz career. This is a good one, don’t miss it!
A show where Amanda Phelan, Talent Buyer and Promoter at Insomniac came by to co-host! Her most recent project is reestablishing the iconic Vans Warped Tour. Amanda was recently named Billboard’s 2023 ’40 Under 40’ as well as Pollstar’s 2021 ‘Next Gen’.
This week I have legendary pro BMX rider Rick Throne on my show, I’ve known him off and on for more than 20 years, we’ve been on the Warped Tour a handful of times together (including my first one) and I get to know Rick a little better on how he started out and got into riding! He’s also a musician, comedian, amongst other things and he tells me everything Rick Throne related!
This week I have long time friend and incredible bassist Ryan Kienle from the band Matchbook Romance, we talk about how he got his start, where his life is going, how we met, and how I got to fill in for Matchbook Romance on drums on a Warped Tour back in 2015. Ryan is one of the coolest people I know and his knowledge of music is out of this world.
This week I have drummer and a good friend over 2 decades: Gary Foster. Gary was one of the first drummers I met when I was on the Warped Tour 2002(fresh out of high school) and I got to meet his bass player Ronnie Ficarro who would eventually go on to do 4 different projects with me in the coming years. We talk about how Gary got his start, how we met, what he’s been able to accomplish in music and everything else in between. I’m so stoked that he and I are still active drummers after all these years.
This week I have singer/songwriter David McWane from Ska band “Big D & The Kids Table.” We’ve met briefly on the Warped Tour, and I wanted to have him on my show because I started out as an early teenager in a Ska band, and I wanted to figure out how he was able to do it professionally all these years. We talk about how David got his start with music, all the way until today. We talk about all the tours and shows he has coming up and how much he enjoys being the opener.
This week I have punk rocker Ray Carlisle from the band Teenage Bottlerocket, we did a few Warped Tour’s together and I’d hang with him every once in a while and we grew up not too far from each other, just one state over in Wyoming while I was in Utah. I try to figure out the punk scene in Wyoming and how Ray got his start and how he got his band on the map.
This week I have childhood friend Jake Margolis, he and I went to middle school and part of high school together in Utah and he too became a career drummer, at the age of 16 he joined band Madcap and went on the 2000 Warped Tour, and from there he’s played drums for such bands as: Tokyo Rose, Let Go, Time Again, Everclear, and much more, he’s now in punk band from Seattle The Drowns and we talk about what it was like growing up together in Utah and where life took Jake.
