With a traditionally-rooted sound, varied instrumentals, and fired-up vocals amplifying the soul of this much-loved genre, the Dropkick Murphys have a sound all their own. But as inspiring and avant-garde as this variation of simple American punk is, it is safe to say that this band has played all of their cards.
We are bringing this installment of FAR BEYOND FOOTBALL to you guys from the final Midwest leg of the Crush ‘Em All tour. This has been an incredible tour for all of the bands that were a part of it. And the stories behind new millennium band names are no less random: Yellowcard According to these So-Cal pop-punkers, “yellowcard” is a take on the ever-popular Frat house idiom, “party foul,” proving drunks can be simultaneously obnoxious and witty. Blink-182 recently spent the night in jail. No, not as inmates. That was their teenage years (Tom DeLonge when he was 18, Travis Barker 15, to be specific). The older, more mature Blink-182 were only behind bars for the sake of work. Southern California funk rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose members occasionally wear only a strategically placed tube sock, are getting ready to release their first concert video in a decade. “Off the Map,” due December 4 on VHS and DVD, was filmed by Dick Rude at a September 2000 show in Portland, Oregon. Clear Channel has identified 150 songs that are considered to be “lyrically inappropriate” for airplay in the wake of the terror attacks carried out in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 11. A Clear Channel spokesperson has confirmed that the list has been circulated among its stations across the country. The lyrical content targeted by the list includes any references to death, flying, September, or general destruction. In a bizarro battle of the bands, U2 will duke it out with an evil version of themselves in their upcoming video for “Elevation” – but not before The Edge is kidnapped by the bandmembers’ doppelg”ngers and then rescued by Angelina Jolie. The clip, to be shot this weekend in Los Angeles, will blend U2 and the upcoming “Tomb Raider” movie into one giant action piece, according to director Joseph Kahn (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys).
