— As UK music festivals go, the Phoenix Festival doesn’t have the storied history of Glastonbury or Reading. It only ran for five years, between 1993 and ’97, but it was located pretty close to my home in the Midlands region of England when I was growing up, and so I went to the 1995 event and the two that followed. The 1996 Phoenix Festival is the festival that I judge all festivals on. Women in Iran have been protesting for their rights over the last several months. The protests were sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini who was killed by “morality police” for not wearing her hijab in an “acceptable” way. Spotify has now shown their support by creating a “Woman of Iran” playlist. The artists in the playlist are Iranian musicians and singers. In an ongoing battle between TikTok and Congress, the CEO of the social media platform is set to hit the stand on March 23rd. He will be the only witness to sit in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The committee made an announcement on their website about the hearing.
