Jennifer Lopez is also looking into the prospect, with the hopes of bringing her sister along for the ride, according to a source close to the singer/actress. The Recording Industry Association of America, the trade organization that represents recording artists, labels, manufacturers and distributors, announced yesterday that Mitch Bainwol would replace Hilary Rosen as chairman and CEO of the organization. Bainwol, a former chief of staff to current Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, will assume his new duty on September 1st. Bainwol has no prior experience working in the music industry and will have his work cut out for him. Members of Glassjaw, the Used, Less Than Jake, Mest and Story of the Year sat down on couches in the New Media lounge of Warner Bros. Records and shot their fans Wednesday morning. The Warped Tour kicked off in Boise, Idaho at the Idaho Center Amphitheater on Thursday (June 19), playing to 10,000 fans. The festival opened at noon with a mad rush of vendors and fans to claim spots, akin to the Oklahoma land rush. The performances began at 12:30 p.m. with 2 Cents on the mainstage, and continued through closing act Face To Face, which went on at about 10:00 pm. Rock music remains the most popular genre among U.S. consumers, while rap/hip-hop has replaced pop as the No. 2 choice, according to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, a music industry trade group. Rock, which has been the No. 1 most-preferred genre since the survey began in 1989, accounted for 24.7% of the market, up from 24.4% the previous year. Rap/hip-hop increased to 13.5%, up almost 2.5 percentage points from the previous year. R&B/urban comes in as the third-most-preferred genre with 11.2%. When radio programmers have hammered the final nail in the coffin of the Used’s “Buried Myself Alive,” the band will move on to “Blue and Yellow,” the fourth single from its self-titled album. The track is the group’s most melancholy and melodic. While most acts go on the road in support of new albums, several Def Jam Records artists will launch a tour next month behind the release of a new video game. Hosted by Method Man, the Def Jam Vendetta tour will encompass concert performances by Capone-N-Noreaga (CNN), Keith Murray, and Joe Budden, as well as a gaming contest where players will go head-to-head on the recently released “Def Jam Vendetta” video game. Due to popular demand, international superstars Bon Jovi have added more dates to their current sold-out tour in support of their acclaimed CD Bounce (Island Records).
