Dozens of small stores have been given two weeks to clear their racks of pirated CDs, tell where they got them and pay damages to the five largest record labels, an industry group said on Monday. The Recording Industry Association of America said 78 small retailers across the U.S. – mostly gas stations and convenience and grocery stores – received the demands after investigators purchased pirated CDs at their stores. A New York operation accused of pirating music to the tune of millions of dollars was raided this week by U.S. Secret Service agents and record industry investigators in what they called the largest ever seizure of music piracy equipment in the U.S. About 35,000 pirated CDs, 10,000 DVDs and the equivalent of 421 CD burners were confiscated, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said in a statement. Veteran U.K. rock outfit Primal Scream has set a Nov. 26 North American release date for its domestic Epic debut, “Evil Heat.” The album, which features contributions from Robert Plant, Kate Moss, My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, and the Jesus And Mary Chain’s Jim Reid, was released in August in the group’s homeland. The North American release of “Evil Heat” will be accompanied by a DVD featuring 45 minutes of bonus material. Mary Weiland, the wife of Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, filed for divorce after two years of marriage on September 24th. The filing cited irreconcilable differences, and Mary is seeking spousal and child support and full custody of their children, one-year-old son Noah and two-month-old daughter Lucy. Weiland pled guilty to a domestic battery charge last December for an incident a month earlier at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. In the late 1970s, Elvis Costello wore a punk snarl to go along with his sharp suits and horn-rimmed glasses. Twenty-five years later, the prolific troubadour has replaced it with something more subtly sinister. Cruel Smile, a companion LP to Costello’s latest studio album, When I Was Cruel, features B-sides, rare cuts and live versions from that album, as well as a handful of fan favorites. Unwritten Law guitarist Steve Morris was injured at his home on Thursday (August 29) night from a bomb explosion. The homemade device was allegedly planted by Morris’s neighbor, a security guard and local police officer, according to a statement released by the band’s record company. The guitarist suffered injuries to his arms and eardrums and the band has now cancelled several upcoming tour dates as he recovers. Morris’s neighbor was arrested and taken into custody.
