CMJ Music Marathon announces artist lineup


The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Acts playing the festival this year include You Me At Six, The Sounds, The Dismemberment Plan, NGHBRS, Echosmith, Braid, and more. EMI to be split and sold for estimated $3.5B


The NY Post reports that Citigroup is close to the sale of record company EMI. The deal reportedly splits the company in to, with recording artists going into one, and it’s publishing arm sold separately in a deal estimated between $3.3 to $3.5 billion.

When will subscription music pay off for artists?


At L.A.’s  Digital Music Forum last week, Anu Kirk, a product lead at digital music service MOG, shared some bad news for musicians adapting to the current state of the music industry: “It sucks,” he said. “It sucks that right now that artists are getting paid so little money by subscription services, but it sucks that artists are getting paid so little money by everyone.” Tell the artists something they don’t know.
